House System
The Via Christi Cottageschool House System is a central feature of our community life, designed to cultivate unity, character, and a shared sense of purpose among our students.
Each student is placed into one of four Houses, where they will remain throughout their time at Via Christi. These Houses serve as smaller communities within the larger body, fostering friendship, accountability, and a healthy spirit of camaraderie.
How It Works
Throughout the school year, Houses earn and lose points based on both academic effort and personal character.
Points are awarded for diligence in studies, thoughtful participation, and excellence in recitation and oration. Just as importantly, students are recognized for acts of virtue—kindness, humility, responsibility, and service to others. Opportunities to earn points extend beyond the classroom, including participation in service projects and meaningful contributions within the home and broader community.
In this way, the House System encourages students to pursue not only knowledge, but also the cultivation of good habits and upright character.
What It Builds
The House System is a powerful culture-builder within Via Christi.
It fosters a sense of belonging, strengthens relationships across age groups, and encourages students to work not only for their own growth, but for the good of their House. Friendly competition throughout the year adds energy and motivation, while reinforcing the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
At the end of the school year, the House with the highest number of points is awarded the House Trophy—a tangible recognition of their collective effort and achievement.
Through the House System, we aim to cultivate a community marked by order, encouragement, and a shared pursuit of what is true, good, and beautiful.
