STATEMENT of FAITH

This Statement of Faith is a summary of the foundational Christian convictions of Via Christi Cottageschool Community and represents the historic teachings of Protestant Christianity.

These beliefs will be discussed openly, consistently, and unapologetically throughout all levels of our Community.

We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. The Bible alone is the supreme authority for faith, doctrine, and the ordering of human life.
(2 Tim. 3:16–17; 2 Pet. 1:20–21; Ps. 119:105; Matt. 24:35)

We believe that there is one living and true God, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14)

He is infinite, that is, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient; able to do all things, present in all creation, and all-knowing.
(Jer. 23:23–24; Ps. 147:5; Rev. 19:6; Heb. 4:13)

We believe in the full deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His being conceived by the Holy Spirit, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary and atoning death, His final sacrifice through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His being seated at the right hand of the Father, and His return in power and glory.
(John 1:1–14; Luke 1:34–35; Heb. 4:15; Acts 2:22; Isa. 53:5–6; Rom. 5:8; Matt. 28:6; Acts 1:9–11; Heb. 1:3; Rev. 19:11–16)

We believe that mankind, being fallen and sinful, cannot be reconciled to God apart from the saving work of Christ.
(Rom. 3:10–23; Rom. 5:12; John 14:6; Acts 4:12)

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone.
(Eph. 2:8–9; Rom. 3:28; Gal. 2:16)

We believe that faith apart from works is dead.
(James 2:17–26)

We believe that the Holy Spirit presently works in the lives of believers, dwelling within them and enabling them to live lives of faithfulness before God.
(John 14:16–17; Rom. 8:9–11; Gal. 5:22–25)

We believe that all people will be raised from the dead: those who belong to Christ unto the resurrection of life, and those who reject Him unto the resurrection of judgment.
(John 5:28–29; Dan. 12:2; Acts 24:15)

We believe that all who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ are united spiritually as the body of Christ.
(Rom. 12:4–5; 1 Cor. 12:12–13; Eph. 4:4–6)

We believe that each person is a wonderful creation, immutably made by God as male or female (Gen. 1:26–31; 2:18–25; 5:1–2). The two sexes are complementary and together reflect the image of God. The rejection of one’s biological sex is sinful and contrary to God’s created order.

We believe that marriage was and is established by God and that in marriage, He joins one man and one woman in a lifelong and exclusive covenant.
(Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:4–6; Mark 10:6–9)

We believe that sexual intimacy is intended by God to occur only within the covenant of marriage. Any sexual conduct outside of this covenant is sinful.
(1 Cor. 6:15–7:6; Eph. 5:3–7; Heb. 13:4)
Such immorality includes, among other things, adultery, fornication, homosexual conduct, and the use of pornography.

We believe that every human life is sacred because it is created in the image of God. Human life is of immeasurable value at all stages, from conception until natural death. We are called to honor, protect, and defend human life in every stage and condition.
(Gen. 1:27; Ps. 139:13–16; Jer. 1:5; Ex. 20:13)

We believe that the Lord has entrusted parents with the solemn responsibility of instructing their children in His truth and forming them in wisdom and godly character according to the teaching of Scripture.
(Deut. 6:6–7; Ps. 78:5–7; Eph. 6:4)

This Statement of Faith does not represent the entirety of our beliefs. The Holy Scriptures remain the final and sufficient authority in all matters of truth, morality, and conduct.
(2 Tim. 3:16–17; Ps. 119:160)
